MINERAL OIL vs BRAKE FLUID

MINERAL OIL vs BRAKE FLUID

Here are some simple guidelines and clarifications to take into account when replacing hydraulic fluids.

A) When our piece works with mineral or synthetic oil:

1. Empty and completely clean the hydraulic system.

2. Add the new hydraulic fluid to the circuit, always taking into account the distinction between MINERAL OIL and SYNTHETIC OIL. The first is the one obtained from the distillation and refinement of the oil itself. The second is obtained by molecular optimization by chemical synthesis. Synthetic oils are Pentosin CHF11S, IADA Servo-Tex and similars.

Never mix MINERAL OIL and SYNTHETIC OIL.

B) When our part works with brake fluid:

1. Empty and completely clean the hydraulic system.

2. Use only new brake fluid, DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5 or DOT 5.1 specification. Never reuse brake fluid.

Also, keep the following in mind: DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 liquids can be mixed together (polyglycol base), but never mix them with DOT 5 (silicone base).
